The Originals 1×06 Recap: Saving Baby

the originals 106

Going into this episode I was kind of hesitant because of the subject matter. I have not grown fond of the Klayley baby. Not because I am a Klaroliner but because I envisioned something so much more for my beloved Originals. Kicking ass for respect, not every week of “we have to save the magical miracle baby.” But….there were some good points in this episode.

It opens with Klaus reading  ‘ A Poison Tree’ by William Blake. If you really look up the meaning of this poem it invites us into what Klaus is feeling towards his current situation. It describes the narrator’s repressed feelings of anger towards an individual, emotions which eventually lead to murder.

Klaus is starting to question his motives and if this child could be a good thing or a bad thing. Also you see in this episode Klaus becoming suspicious of Elijah and Hayley’s feelings. Hold tight my fellow Klaroliners….not like that, but making sure Elijah understands the child she carries is his. One thing that has stuck out to me these past episodes is Klaus clearly separates Hayley from the baby. In his feelings and statements to everyone as Elijah has accepted both. Klaus still sees them as separate. Which should cause Hayley to worry once the child is born.

Elijah breaks the deal tonight with the witches. Giving Davina a spell to unbind Sophie and Hayley. Meanwhile the witches have already started their plan of destruction to take out the baby. Injecting Sophie with something to make Hayley burn up and miscarry. My thoughts while all this is taking place. You really didn’t see this coming?

Meanwhile Elijah holds true to his promise and leaves Davina to work on the unbinding spell. Informing her it will help her with controlling her magic. I am starting to like these little talks among her and Elijah.

Rebekah is now the super nanny of the house and her duties include having to hear Hayley bicker about not having milk and cleaning. I really hate this part of the show, Rebekah is a badass vampire she does not need to clean up after her brother’s mess. That includes Hayley…

Klaus is setting up his plan to get the Father Kieran to tell him where Agnes is, so he can kill her of course. After he gets her to take the curse off of the object that made Cami’s brother go insane. Klaus also offers up this information, knowing Father K will take it and give him exactly what he wants.

Meanwhile in the quarter Marcel is checking behind all of Klaus’s stories and discovers his deceitfulness . He needs to find out what the Mikaelson’s are hiding. He also has a little talk with his most trusted friend Thierry in the garden.

Meanwhile Elijah arrives home to find Hayley burning up and has brought along some help in the form of Sophie. They send super nanny Rebekah out to find herbs that could help and slow down the process. Where she runs into Marcel, who is sniffing around to see what is really going on. While also sending some serious vibes towards Rebekah. Is he doing this because he wants to rekindle their romance or does he see her as an ally in the Mikaelson clan?

After all the baby mama drama with trying to save the unborn child. Which we still do not know what danger this child really holds towards the witches. Also if it will hurt Hayley or anything else for that matter. But Davina comes to the rescue and finally performs the unbinding spell. Unlinking Hayley and Sophie.

But…..sparks fly in the pool between Hayley and Elijah. Which I so ship them;) As Rebekah looks on and notices as well. My guess its  time for a little heart to heart with Hayley about not causing trouble or a power struggles between her two brothers.

As Sophie begs for the life of Agnes telling the Originals about her importance to the coven. Smart move. Elijah rushes to stop the little showdown taking place in the church between Agnes and Klaus. As he arrives Klaus is holding the witches neck informing her to not threaten his family. Elijah quiets  the storm only to in the end take care of it himself by ripping the hearts out of the so called council and snapping Agnes’s neck.

Klaus visits Cami to let her know that the person who unleashed the powerful curse on her brother is dead. Followed by another emotional confrontation and slap. Man the women on this show love to slap people. But also leaving the hybrid with a warning that once she figures out what he did to her he will be sorry. Cami had issues earlier in the show about her feelings, now that Klaus has taken them away towards her concern over her brother.

Rebekah and Elijah have a heart felt exchange as she tells him she is leaving. Not before she see’s Marcel of course and they have some long overdue make up sex. Afterwards she wants him to come with her. Only to be shut down…she does leave him with some very interesting words.  No matter how big your empire becomes, it means nothing if you have no one to share it with~Rebekah

Hint: to Julie Plec…when Klaus does take over the quarter he will need his queen by his side.

This episode ends with Marcel finding where the Mikaelson’s have been staying and finally meeting  Hayley. Only to cut to him letting Klaus know and Elijah coming home to an empty house. As he calls Rebekah who is half-way out of the city. She too finds out that Hayley is missing followed by Klaus rushing in to let his brother know Marcel was there.

Next week of course will be a race against time to find Hayley, but my guess is Tyler is already there.

My conclusion: I love this show for what it is becoming but I have a lot of fears for the road it could suddenly take. Klaus needs Caroline there for starters, everyone else has those soft special moments and he has no one. This could hurt the show if the audience never sees that glorious side we saw and fell in love with on TVD. Especially when Caroline was involved. Cami and Klaus’s interactions are not the same nor better than his with Caroline.

And now we come to the elephant in the room. The baby….my issue is every episode is turning into a race to save Hayley because of the baby. Find her, unbind her, or rescue her etc. This could get old quick and it has for me. Viewers are loving the baby and Hayley now but for longevity, I don’t see that as very appealing going into a full season order or second season. I have faith that Julie Plec will understand that and do what needs to be done to improve this show. Rebekah is more than a babysitter, they need to expand her role a bit more. Elijah is awesome the way he is but Hayley needs to cut back on the sarcasm. It’s starting to sound like she is whining but it could be hormones. I love the growth Klaus could make on this show but it has not even started yet and we’re going on episode 7.  Anyway enough with my rants of how this show could be EPIC.  Its already awesome but Joseph Morgan deserves EPIC and Klaus deserves Caroline. So sound off with your thoughts of tonights The Originals episode.

  2. I was really excited about the spin off despite that meaning no Klaroline and I have to say I was really suprised about how good it started. But after yesterday’s episode and seeing the next week’s promo I ‘m quite doubtful about how good will continue to be.Out of 7 episodes we have in 3 of them the originals going to save Hayley and the baby,If continue this way is goona bored me out my mind.Elijah being smitten with a pregnant by his brother girl is like watching one of these soap operas that my mon watching in the afternoon.Rebekah having sex , again, with a guy that doesn’t seem to be really in love with her, no good. They could built up that relationship a little longer, it made Rebekah look cheap. And Cami , I admit that i ‘m biased (I ‘m a Klaroliner after all ) but I just not see the purpose of her.The only positive thing about her is that she prevents a possible love trianlge between K/E/H, and since the Salvatotes/Elena trauma I hate triangles, so that’s good.
Klaus caring about Caroline out of the blue was starnge, but I saw it as something that can happen to a person without really wanting it.Drawn to her just because. But that happening to the said person two times in a period of one-two years while never happened before in his thousand is kind hard to understand. I understand that a lead has to have a love interest but they could have waited a while. It makes Klaus hypocritical about his feeling and what he says.I wonder how many blondes will pop up from his past.
I know that was long but I had to rant because I love all the originals and i don’t like where they are going.

  3. First off, Rebekah, Marcel was not worthy. He didn’t earn you. He did not deserve. You need someone better. Secondly, is Cami going to join Marcel now. I mean that was a lot of anger. Also, Julie Plec usually knows when the audience is tired of a subject so I think the baby (who I already love) rescue episodes will be less often, but this upcoming episode was bound to happen. Marcel had to found out about the baby eventually, and he was going to take her eventually. Better sooner than later, right? Furthermore, when Hayley and Elijah enter a scene together, the words “husband” and “wife” pop up in my head. The kitchen scene was lovely as was the pool scene. Also, I am excited for Tyler’s arrival because Caroline’s name will be dropped. I think they may introduce Caroline to the show like they introduced Katherine, through flashbacks and conversations sprinkled throughout the season. Then, she will pop up at the end. Who knows?
